disqust
=======

Disqus API client.

The `Disqus API <https://disqus.com/api/docs/>`__ is super-simple; you
don't need their approved client, which is broken and lacks
documentation of its arcane intended usage.

You probably don't even need this library. Just creating a
```requests.Session`` <http://docs.python-requests.org/en/master/user/advanced/#session-objects>`__
object and setting ``session.params = {'api_key': '...'}`` would get you
pretty far. In fact, that is practically all that happens when using
this library's ``disqust.Client(api_key='...')`` constructor.
But there are a couple of handy features this library provides:
-  Automatic error raising and JSON parsing, via ``client.json()``
-  Iterating over successive pages, via ``client.iter_results()``
-  Storing a (fixed-length queue of) responses, which enables the
   ``client.rate_limit_remaining`` helper and other debugging niceties.
Install
-------
|PyPI version|
With ```pip`` <https://pip.pypa.io/en/stable/>`__:
::
    pip install -U disqust
With ```setuptools`` <https://github.com/pypa/setuptools>`__:
::
    easy_install -U disqust
In either case, use ``-U`` / ``--upgrade`` to upgrade to the latest
version in case you've already installed an older one.
Example
-------
We'll use the standard public API key that Disqus uses for its embedded
integrations all over the web:
::
    export DISQUS_API_KEY=E8Uh5l5fHZ6gD8U3KycjAIAk46f68Zw7C6eW8WSjZvCLXebZ7p0r1yrYDrLilk2F
(I don't know if this is legit or condoned or reliable, but you can grab
that key from any XHR request on any webpage that embeds Disqus
comments.)
Then, start a Python REPL and configure the ``client`` instance:
::
    import os
    import disqust
    client = disqust.Client(api_key=os.environ['DISQUS_API_KEY'])
Show channel details (lots of fields manually elided from response):
::
    client.json('channels/details', channel='discussdisqus')
Fetch all the threads in a forum (this can take 5-7 minutes!) ...
apparently there's no ``channels/listThreads`` endpoint like there is
``forums/listThreads``, nor a ``channel=xyz`` parameter for the
``threads/list`` endpoint, but we can use the forum parameter like so:
::
    threads = list(client.iter_results('threads/list', forum='channel-discussdisqus', limit=100))
    len(threads)
    >>> 13357
Print the 10 most recent threads:
::
    for thread in threads[:10]:
        print('[{}] {}'.format(thread['createdAt'], thread['title']))
